Ironheart, also known as Riri Williams, is one of Marvel's most promising young superheroes—a brilliant inventor who builds her own suit of armor and carves her path as a successor to Iron Man. First introduced in the comics in 2016, Ironheart is a powerful symbol of intelligence, courage, and representation in the Marvel Universe.

Origin and Creation

Ironheart was created by writers Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, making her first appearance in Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #7 (2016). Riri Williams is a 15-year-old African-American engineering prodigy from Chicago. She gets accepted into the prestigious MIT and secretly constructs a suit of power armor using materials she "borrows" from campus.

Her journey starts after the death of Tony Stark (Iron Man) in Civil War II. Recognizing her genius and determination, Stark's artificial intelligence mentors her—passing the torch to a new generation of armored heroes.
